French Process Zinc Oxide, also called as the "Indirect Process", is based on evaporating metallic zinc and burning (oxidizing) the vapor in air.
Zn +½ O2 ► ZnO
A variety of metallic zinc raw materials are used : refined SHG and HG zinc, remelted zinc, galvanizers dross, diecasting alloys, old roofing zinc.
French process zinc oxides are characterized by a nodular shaped fine particle (typically 0,4 to 0,8 microns). Their chemical purity is a direct function of the type of metal used. High purity “pharmaceutical grade” zinc oxide will be obtained when SHG zinc is used. This grade will be used in applications requiring high purity such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, electronics, electronics, batteries, coatings.
